In Detail
Hand drawing and sketching are fundamental aspects for communicating visually in the design field. Individuals can use this technique to improve their understanding of spatial concepts, to provide common language for translating visual ideas and to assist with developing creative design solutions.
This book provides every student with an opportunity to learn hand line drawing skills, starting from drawing a line and finishing with drawing interior perspective rooms. The step-by-step instructions, hand drawn illustrations and video demonstrations, provide effective support material for this process. In addition, the creative strategies and helpful hints encourage students to overcome typical stumbling blocks found in learning a new skill.
Creating realistic drawings in proportion can rely on the ability to draw a box in perspective. The basic theory of this book uses the box method of drawing. All of the objects illustrated are interior elements, furniture and accessories.
The first two chapters focus on one-point and two-point box shapes, proportion and multiview drawings. The next chapters use the box shape to draw cylinders, furniture and accessories. Some chapters include design elements of texture, value, shade and shadow along with drawing plants. The final two chapters include projects for a one-point and two point perspective drawing of residential interior rooms.
What's included?
This is more than just a textbook; it's a complete learning package that includes the Exploring Perspective Hand Drawing Reference book, an activity sketch book and video instruction.
The companion activity sketch book provides a step-by-step approach for practicing and developing fundamental perspective line drawing techniques. The activity sketch book corresponds directly with the information in Chapters 1 - 8 of the Exploring Perspective Hand Drawing Reference book, and provides additional support material.
The collection of activities in this book are intended to provide a foundation for developing basic line drawing techniques. These skills are brought together in Chapters 9 and 10 of the reference book, where you will find instructions for creating complete interior design projects of one-point and two-point perspective rooms.
In addition, a number of the enclosed activities have a corresponding video to demonstrate the techniques described in the reference book. These activities are denoted by a disk icon at the end of the instructions and are included on the enclosed DVD.

Instructor Resources
The following downloadable resources require that you are registered, logged in and have been authenticated as an instructor.
The author has provided several class outlines for her book Exploring Perspective Hand Drawing. This is an added teaching tool for instructors who will be using this book in a introduction to drawing class or as part of a studio class to reinforce their students' drawing skills.
There are class outlines for 10 week, 12 week and 15 week classes. Each outline includes a suggested weekly chapter with both class topics and demonstrations from the Activity Sketch Book and suggested homework reading, video viewing and activities. It is designed for a "flipped class" structure where the homework includes activities from the past class and reading and view videos in preparation for the next class. For example, Week 3 Cylinders was demonstrated in class, the homework includes activities drawing cylinders and reading and video viewing about texture and pattern in preparation for Week 4 class demonstrations.
